Studio mnm is a design and research studio based in Tokyo and London. Our aim is to design innovative solutions for the city that address the way we live. Crucial to our ethos is an understanding of people. Both Mio and Madeleine have spent a significant amount of time traveling, living in, working in and researching unfamiliar cities, cultures, and countries. Through this we have sought to analyse and understand the idiosyncrasies that make a city unique. Research and analysis are as much a part of Architecture as physical building and construction. Just as we have learnt from different places, we also believe in learning from and working in close relationship with other collaborators through the design process and on site, to allow us to successfully integrate structure, construction and materiality into the main Architectural theme and idea.

マデリーン・ケスラー

mnmはスイス・バーゼルの設計事務所HHF Architectsで出会ったマデリーン・ケスラーと常山未央によるロンドン/東京に拠点をおく建築の設計・リサーチスタジオです。
私たちは長い期間なじみのない土地に住み、働く中で街に固有性をもたらす文化、慣習、地形、歴史を調・分析し、理解することを身に付けていきました。それは実際の建物や建設工事と同じように建築を設計する課程の一端であり、人々の生活様式が現れる都市に対して、根本的な解決意識を持ってデザインしていくことを目指しています。異なったバックグラウンドと拠点をもつ私たちが設計や共同リサーチなどを通じて互いに情報を共有し得る知は、建築を実践する際にぶつかる葛藤において、法規・構造・施工といった技術と概念的なアイデア・構成を統合していく設計者としての力を育ててくれると考えています。
